Father's Day

Ashley and I got home late on Saturday from Youth Conference and the next day was Father's Day.  I had two responsibilities on this front.  One was at church and the other at home.

Since we have 9am church, we were up and at it early.  Its a tradition for the Young Women to make a video and host a cookies and milk event for all the adult men in the ward.  This year, I made the video using iMovie on my Mac and video taken on our new camera.  It is a big project and took a bunch of time but the with iMovie it turned out pretty good.  All the youth of the ward make cookies and we put a spread out for the dads.  Here is this year's handiwork---it turned out cute:

After church, we came home and celebrated our dad!  The girls love their dad so much.  He's a great father!  We weren't going to really do gifts but the girls picked out some items that he really needed.  One was a new black umbrella.  It rained earlier in the week and he couldn't find his umbrella so he had to use a flowery girl one which was a little embarrassing for him commuting to work.  The second was some new combs.  The true sign of being a dad is never being able to find a comb in the morning.

In the end, he actually got a third gift because of an impulse buy of mine.  I was at Costco and they had a rolling Notre Dame cooler with a handle.  Now I've always wanted to get a rolling cooler.  Of course, I never think about doing it until I'm lifting and carrying a heavy one on a way to a picnic.  When I saw it at Costco, I knew it was meant to be.  I mean when would I have a chance to by a ND cooler again?!

The one thing the girls spent the most time thoughtfully picking out for Dave was a Father's Day Card. They almost went with a Bacon Car Freshner card but in the end chose the one they felt most fitting.  And true enough, they nailed it with the "pull my finger" card.

For dinner, we had homemade grilled chicken burrito bowls and Dad's root beer.  Happy Father's Day.
