4th of JULY

For at least the last 4 years, we have been on vacation during the 4th of July.  This year for a change we  were at home and actually got to enjoy the company of neighbors and go to some community events.  Our friends who live across the street invited us to go to a parade and then come over to their house for a backyard bbq with a bunch of other neighbors.

Dave is not a big fan of parades, but we had never been to a 4th of July parade so he sucked it up and went with us.  We went to the City of Aurora parade and got great front row seats.  It was a cute hometown parade.  The weather was sunny but not too hot so it was a great day for a parade.

I also decided to use my new skills and make some homemade root beer for the neighborhood bbq.

I also made my favorite pie - Strawberry Rhubarb, using rhubarb my neighbor grew and gave to me.

Then we just spent the rest of the day eating and visiting while the kids played.  Some of the families went to watch fireworks when it started getting dark.  We decided not to go because we had plans to see fireworks the next night, but Paige went with one of her friends.  The rest of us came back home and watched the World Cup.  Happy Birthday America!!
